How to Measure Your Window Before Ordering

Ordering a windproof zip-track roller blind means measuring the opening width and height at several points, because openings are rarely square. Measurements are taken across three horizontal points, W1 to W3, and three vertical points, H1 to H3. The finished size is then calculated differently for an inside installation within the frame and an outside installation over the frame.

Where to Measure: Width and Height Points

Measurement accuracy matters on this system because the fabric travels inside fixed aluminium side tracks. Each blind is made to the opening that was measured rather than adjusted on site, so widths and heights are recorded to the millimetre. Small errors show up as track misalignment or uneven fabric tension.

W1-W3 show the width measured at three points; H1-H3 show the height measured at three points. Always use the smallest width reading.

Inside install method

Wall installation: measuring inside the window recess

Use this method when the blind fits inside the window recess, or when it is fixed against the wall. Both width and height use the smallest reading.

Measure width: take the smallest reading

Measure the window width (WW) from left to right. Take the smallest of your readings (W1 to W3). Then product width (WP) = window width - 5 mm.

WP = WW - 5 mm

Measure height: take the shortest reading

Measure the window height (HW) from top to bottom. Take the shortest of your readings (H1 to H3). Then product height (HP) = window height, or window height - 5 mm.

HP = HW (or HW - 5 mm)

Outside Ceiling Install

How to Measure for Outside (Ceiling) Installation

Use this method when the blind is fitted outside the window frame, over the opening, and mounted to the wall above the window or to the ceiling.

Measure Width from Left to Right

Measure the window width (WW) from left to right in three places. Use the smallest reading, W1-W3. Product width (WP) = window width + 4". Adjust the 4" to suit the site.

WP = WW + 4"

Measure Height from Top to Bottom

Measure the window height (HW) from top to bottom in three places. Use the largest reading, H1-H3. Product height (HP) = window height + 6-8". Use the largest reading here, not the smallest.

HP = HW + 6-8"
